Old Testament חֵרֶם and New Testament Evangelism (Num 21:31–35)

Rather than the cherem-inspired scent of death, we “spread the knowledge of Christ everywhere, like a sweet perfume” (2 Cor 2:14). Our victorious lives are a Christ-like fragrance rising up to God. Of course “this fragrance is perceived differently by those who are being saved and by those who are perishing. To those who are perishing, we are a dreadful smell of death and doom, but to those who are being saved we are a life giving perfume.” That was from 2 Cor 2, especially verse 15. Such could have been the case with the cherem warfare that Israel waged too, if they met nations willing to bow to Yahweh.
